The Life of a Swartzentruber Amish Girl
Growing up within the strictest order of the Amish community, I struggled with all the rules and secrets. At six years old, I told my mother I was too tired to live anymore. Questions swirled in my young mind about why others had things that I did not or if life truly had a purpose. But my questions didn't always have answers and my spirit remained unsettled.
Behind Closed Doors recounts in detail my journey through childhood and what it was like living in an Amish home. It describes the customs and traditions, as well as the rules and restrictions I lived under as I grew into a young woman and managed the heartaches and triumphs of life.
From a young age, I recognized that God plays a part in our lives. Little did I know how big a part He would play in mine. Life changed forever the day my husband and I decided to follow our hearts, leaving behind the only lifestyle we knew, only to be shunned by family and friends.
